We offer a variety of treatment options for individuals struggling with eating disorders, families wanting to support their child and athletes wanting to optimize their nutrition. 

Individual counseling treatment options

We offer both nutrition counseling and psychotherapy to support you with your needs. Our individual counseling services connect you one-on-one with a registered dietitian or licensed psychologist to develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique goals and lived experience. Whether you’re seeking guidance with recovery from an eating disorder, optimizing your nutrition for sport and/or  a safe space for mental health support, we provide flexible options designed to meet your specific needs.

Individual nutrition counseling

FBT Informed Nutrition Counseling

Family Based Treatment (FBT) is a specialty treatment and the gold standard for adolescents or young adults with eating disorders. Our team of registered dietitians is trained in FBT and provides FBT Informed Nutrition Counseling

Individual Psychotherapy

Service offered for eating disorders and other mental health concerns

Family Based Treatment for adolescents (FBT)

This is a specialty treatment for adolescents or young adults with eating disorders. Some of our psychologists are trained in FBT and provide this service.

Group treatment options

Here are examples of groups that are either currently being offered or have been offered in the past. Contact us to inquire about groups that are currently running or to learn more. 

This group is led by a Registered Dietitian and offered for individuals diagnosed with eating disorders or individuals who have disordered eating patterns.

An in-person food exposure support group that helps explore and reframe narratives and fears surrounding challenging foods at restaurants.
 
Commitment: Drop-in (registration required)
When: Once a month
Where: Around the Plateau Mont Royal area (starting point is the Sööma’s Plateau Mont Royal office)
Language: bilingual

This group is led by a Registered Dietitian and offered for BIPOC-identifying individuals (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) experiencing an eating disorder or disordered eating.

This group will focus on discussions around the emotional and physical impacts of culture and experiences on the recovery process, one’s relationship with food (food rules, narratives and fear foods) , body image and values.
Participants will explore how to move towards their own definition of recovery and what that may look like.
 
Commitment: Closed group, 6 sessions every 2 weeks (registration required)

This group is led by a Registered Dietitian and offered for individuals diagnosed with eating disorders or individuals who have disordered eating patterns.

A virtual meal support group that incorporates principles of ACT to guide participants towards a relationship with food that aligns with their values. Participants will be:

Exploring how eating disorder thoughts can hook us and pull us away from actions or foods that we want to pursue.

Identifying values around food and practicing how to move towards alignment with them.

Pivoting away from unworkable behaviors and practicing acceptance to help create a more meaningful life.

Commitment: Closed group, 6 sessions every 2 weeks (registration required)

This group is led by a Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Dietitian and is offered for individuals with eating disorders or disordered eating

This group has a rolling admission and uses an ACT approach in order to explore emotional experiences through the life cycle, how eating disorders serve clients in managing pain and how engaging in eating disorder behaviors prevents individuals from leading a meaningful life aligned with their values.

Commitment: Closed group, 6 sessions every 2 weeks (registration required)

This group is led by a Registered Dietitian and is offered for individuals with eating disorders, a chronic dieting history or disordered eating

Inspired by Caroline Dooner’s book (F*ck it Diet) and Christy Harrison’s book (Anti Diet), individuals will use the books as a guides for conversations surrounding diet culture, body weight, self worth and chronic restriction.

Commitment: Closed group, 6 sessions every 2 weeks (registration required)

Working with individuals with eating disorders requires specialty training, both in terms of being able to screen if someone may be experiencing an eating disorder and understanding the nuances and complexities of providing nutrition counseling and psychotherapy for this population. Our team is committed to collaborating with healthcare professionals to increase awareness and knowledge in the treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating.
